Yobe L-pres Team For Community Sensitization And Engagement

By ICT • Oct 30, 2025

Yobe L-PRES team for community sensitization and engagement at Tashan Fulani, Biriri and Lantewa all in Tarmuwa Local Government Area recently came together in a display of strong community engagement to support the construction of a solar-powered borehole in their area. The borehole, which will provide a reliable source of clean water for the Livestock Farmers, was made possible through the collaboration of the community and a group of pastoralist farmers.

The initiative was spearheaded by a group of pastoralist farmers who recognized the need for sustainable access of water in the community. They approached the community with the idea of constructing a solar-powered borehole and received overwhelming support from the residents.
The Goal is to provide a reliable source of clean water for Livestock Farmers (likely addressing the needs of pastoralists). The project resulted from the collaboration between the community residents and a group of pastoralist farmers.

Initiation: The idea was spearheaded by the pastoralist farmers who secured overwhelming support from the community. The mention of the "Yobe L-PRES team for community sensitization" in the first line suggests that this entire initiative is likely related to the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) in Yobe State, and the community engagement described is possibly a result of, or in alignment with, the sensitization efforts of the L-PRES team.

The project in Tashan Fulani aligns directly with the goals of the World Bank-supported Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project being implemented in Yobe State. The L-PRES Project aims to improve livestock productivity, enhance commercialization, and boost the resilience of targeted livestock production systems, which includes mitigating the impact of climate change and reducing farmer-herder tensions.
This is crucial for: Ensuring sustainable access to water for livestock (cattle, sheep, and goats).

Reducing the need for pastoralists to embark on long-distance movements in search of water, which is a major factor in farmer-herder conflict. Engaging community leaders, pastoralist associations, and residents across the state to foster acceptance and ownership of the project's goals. Collaboration: Facilitating the partnership between the pastoralist farmers who spearheaded the idea and the wider community residents who provided overwhelming support. This community-led approach is a hallmark of the L-PRES implementation strategy.

The construction of the borehole in Tashan Fulani is a clear demonstration of how L-PRES-inspired sensitization and support can lead to tangible, community-owned solutions for improving livelihoods and enhancing resilience in the livestock sector. …

L-pres Intervention: Feed & Equipment Support

By ICT • Oct 30, 2025

L-PRES Intervention: Feed & Equipment Support
The distribution of wheat offals and chopper crushers to livestock farmers in Bursari and Yunusari LGAs is a strategic effort under the L-PRES project aimed at improving animal nutrition and addressing the critical issue of feed shortage, particularly during the dry season.Wheat offals are a highly nutritious byproduct of wheat milling. Their distribution is a direct way to provide subsidized or free supplementary feed to pastoralist livestock, improving the health, productivity (meat/milk yield), and resilience of the animals.
The distribution of crop residue choppers/crushers is designed to enable farmers to process agricultural byproducts (like groundnut haulms, millet/sorghum stalks, etc.) into more palatable and digestible feed for their livestock. Reduces Waste: It minimizes the wastage of crop residues, which are often burned or left unprocessed. Ensures All-Year Feed: It allows farmers to store and utilize feed efficiently, ensuring availability during periods of scarcity, thereby enhancing the resilience of the livestock value chain.
Strategic Importance
This entire initiative is part of Component 2 (Livestock Value Chain Enhancement) of the L-PRES project, which seeks to modernize feeding techniques and improve overall livestock management practices. …
